We are new here, so pardon our mess…or lack of mess, because this is our first blog and the website is only about a day old. As such, this will be short as we find our voice in this world.

We are parents and educators working together who would like to communicate about and advocate for safety in the Fairfax County Public School (FCPS) system using science and research as our guide. That is a pretty broad goal, so we are working out the specifics, but promise to keep you informed in the meantime.

Currently, the most pressing safety issue for everyone is the global COVID pandemic which has had devastating local effects, as well. As we all know, the pandemic has directly affected education across the country (and the world) with school districts working overtime to come up with education and safety plans for their students, teachers, and staff. We recognize that there are issues with both virtual education and determining how and when to re-open buildings to in-person education.

We don’t claim to have all of the answers, but we will try to find the best data possible to help you make your own choices and to understand why stakeholders and decision makers in Fairfax County are making their requests, recommendations, and decisions. Ultimately, we hope to identify ways to maximize education and safety for all school stakeholders during the pandemic.

Over the next few weeks, we will be adding to our website and (hopefully) our audience, so come back and visit us again. In the meantime, P is for Patience, while this grassroots organization concentrates on growing its roots!

For now, check out our Twitter feed @SafeFCPS and remember S is for Science and Safety

Sincerely,
